PSALMS AND PASSION OF CHRIST
(A Raga based Musical Journey from Gethsemane to Golgotha.)
On March 15th, 2015; 5:00pm at the church with an attendance of over one hundred fifty people.
Guest singer Nigel Bobby of Pakistan touched the hearts of our audience with some familiar songs and Zaboors as well as some fresh and new compositions and melodies. Chicagolands own singer Sadiq Robinson sang three songs while his son tabla player Rahel accompanied him. Indo-Pak UMC’s own musicians, Keyboard player Shahzad Markus, Dholak Player Nadeem Nelson and guitarist John Mall accompanied guest singer and others.Pastor Eric Sarwar helped coordinate this program. Two members of Wheaton Christian Reformed Church, Ethno Doxologist Rebecca Reddington, indo- Pak youth group, Mall family and congregation participated in singing of Geets, bhajans and zaboors.
This evening was meant to be a somber evening as the focus and theme of the evening was the passion and sufferings of Christ. However the sad news of killing of eighteen and wounding of eighty Christians by suicide bombers in two churches in Lahore, Pakistan, made this evening even more serious. Rev. Ernest Singh asked everyone to pause to pray for our brothers and sisters in Pakistan and to take special offerings for them. $566 was donated during the program and efforts are underway to sell CD of the program to raise additional funds with a goal is to raise a total of $2000 for the families of victims.
Over all this was one of the most meaningful experiences for us. We were sad, humbled and thankful as we worshipped God with music and reading of the Holy Bible.
The evening concluded with a meal in Grimes Hall and a time for fellowship.
